Feeding and storage notes

Practical notes for feeding and keeping our food. This is general information, not veterinary advice. Last updated 9 October 2026.

Ask your vet before changing the diet of a puppy, a senior dog, a pregnant or nursing dog, or a dog with a health condition.

Switching to a new food

Change over slowly, across about 7 days. A sudden switch can upset a dog's stomach.

If your dog has a sensitive stomach, take two weeks instead. Soft stools for a day or two during the switch are common. If they last longer, slow down or ask your vet.

How much to feed

As a starting point, feed about 10 g per kg of body weight per day for a quiet dog, 13 g per kg for a normally active dog and 15 g per kg for a very active one. A 20 kg dog with a normal day therefore gets about 260 g. Every dog is different, so watch your dog's shape and adjust. The guidance on the pack and our advice are a starting point, not a rule.

If you are not sure, message us. Tell us the breed, age, weight and activity level and we will suggest a daily amount.

What our products are

A complete food can be fed on its own as the whole diet. A complementary food is a treat or a topper to be fed alongside a complete diet. Our complete foods are the SofDry range (all types), the ALC canned meals and the SofDry cat food. Everything else, the bites, chews, biscuits and Liver Bears, is a treat and should be counted as part of the day's food.

Our products are food. They are not medicines. We make no claim that any product treats, prevents or cures any condition. If your dog is unwell, see your vet.

Allergens

Our products contain the animal proteins named on the label, for example chicken, beef or fish. If your dog reacts to a particular protein, check the ingredient list on every pack before buying. Recipes can be made in the same kitchen, so trace amounts of another protein cannot be ruled out [TO CONFIRM].

Batch numbers and dates

Every pack carries a best-before date and a batch number. Keep the pack, or a photo of it, until the food is finished. If you ever have a concern, send us the batch number and we can trace exactly when and how it was made.

Questions

Message us any time. We would rather answer a small question than have a dog go off its food.
